Grab a cup of coffee and let me show you around my little studio where I spend a lot of my day designing, computing, watercolor painting, practicing calligraphy and handlettering.

Friends in Silhouette

My Friends in Silhouette

Funny things happen when you start chatting with your dog groomer. Like ideas. Ideas that morph into other ideas. And then take a twist along the way. Shannon asked me about decorating her shop in dog silhouettes along the wall and wondered if that was something I could do. I told her I could and then I thought it would be so unique and original if I created them from her “own” dogs that she has groomed and photographed. That evening, I made a sample on the computer using one of my own dog’s photo (BonBon is on the cover illustration on the calendar) and sent it to Shannon. She loved it! So while working on ideas for her shop wall, I decided to create my own silhouette series of dogs that I know (or knew) from photos. I loved finding their individual personalities showing through a simple black and white illustration! Then I assigned suitable quotes (more challenging than one might think) to accompany each silhouette.  The result was so surprisingly satisfying and has become a sentimental favorite of mine now. Again, many blessings on the hearts of my busy friends and family who shared fabulous photos of their dogs and helped me over a few speed bumps along the way. True friends, one and all. Some are furry. Some make our dogs clean and fluffy. I look forward to chatting it up with Shannon tomorrow. We just might come up with a new idea soon.

This calendar does not have any watercolors or handlettering (what?!) but I have created the silhouettes using my own photos or my friends’ photos, a Wacom pen, and Photoshop. They are printed with pigment ink on bright white, premium, matte, 11 mil thick papers. All are 5 x 7, single-sided, monthly cards that fit into my custom-made wood desk stand and are available in gift sets or individually.
